Mayflower—Home of Librarians

Kathy Dempsey, Editor of Marketing Library Services newsletter, has said,

“Libraries are portals to all of the world’s knowledge. And librarians make sure that knowledge continues to be recorded and saved for the future, even as information-storage devices and formats change.”

In other words, librarians are really important people!

We have a proportionately large number of retired librarians living in The Mayflower Community (Grinnell, Iowa). They include the current Mayflower Residents Association Library Committee Chair, Robin Estes (pictured). In addition, the following professional librarians are our residents: Catherine Rod, Grinnell College associate professor Senior Faculty, was one of the first residents to move into Watertower Square three years ago. Lorna Caulkins, former Grinnell Drake Community Library Director, is one of the most recent move-ins to Watertower Square.

Watertower Square must be bursting with curators of written and digital knowledge, as retired librarians Harriet Adelberg, Mary Gray, and Pat Yungclas also live there! In a Harwich Terrace home is retired City librarian Ginny Cameron. In Buckley, is retired City library worker, Pat Groth. Former Burling Library (Grinnell College) librarian, Lisa Adkins, lives in our Health Center.
