Today (February 5th) is the Chinese New Year. It is marked by a Spring Festival that celebrates the beginning of the new year on the traditional Chinese calendar. This day is one of several Lunar New Years observed in Asia. This year celebrates the Year of the Pig. The festival has traditionally been a time to honor deities and ancestors. In addition, this is a time for Chinese families to thoroughly clean their houses to sweep away ill fortune and make way of incoming good luck.
Since we already thoroughly clean The Mayflower Community—every day—we decided to celebrate the pig with heavy hors d’oeuvres….and await the arrival of the “good luck!” Yesterday, Riza Miller, our veteran certified medication aide (CMA), prepared all the food for a Mayflower residents feast.
