On Tuesday, December 30th, singer/guitarist Dennis Perry performed The Mayflower Community’s last concert of 2021. He played for a physically-distanced crowd of Mayflower Health Center and Beebe Assisted Living residents in the Carman Center.
The hour-long rendition of favorite country music songs was nostalgic for Mayflower residents.
A Marshalltown area native, Dennis learned to play guitar while in the Army. When he came home, he talked his younger brother into playing drums with him. They named themselves the “Western Tones,” added four more musicians and started playing taverns, ballrooms, and honky-tonks.
When the band broke up, Dennis went out on his own, playing nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Currently, he is the lead singer for a band named “Highway 30 Band.” He is just starting his 54th year in music and reports, “I love it as much today as when I first started.”
