Mayflower Community has a rich tradition of innovative and progressive leadership. The Mayflower’s commitment to its residents and to the needs of the citizenry within the community of Grinnell is demonstrated by many examples of innovative “firsts.”
Mayflower provided the leadership for the development of Pearl Street apartments in 1990. This was the first housing project of its kind in the state of Iowa.
Mayflower provided leadership in the development of affordable housing for senior and disabled persons in the Grinnell area.
The first licensed residential care facility for seniors in Poweshiek County.
In 1986, Mayflower constructed Grinnell’s first patio style (duplex and triplex) retirement homes. These homes offer individual ownership.
In 1993, Mayflower created Grinnell’s first CCDI unit. This is a specially licensed nursing care facility designed for the care of persons with Alzheimer’s Disease and related disorders. It was the first Alzheimer’s facility recognized and licensed by the state of Iowa in Poweshiek County.
In 1997, Mayflower developed 10 assisted living suites. This was the first assisted living facility certified by the state of Iowa in Grinnell and Poweshiek County.
