The Mayflower Community is being proactive in attacking flu germs to avoid them getting a foothold. The focus is the entire campus—Health Center, South Neighborhood, Beebe Assisted Living, independent living apartments, meeting rooms, and common areas. This includes a daily routine of stepped-up cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting.
Assisting Mayflower in this battle is new technology recently acquired: The Clorox® Total 360® System. It is pictured above being operated by Mayflower’s Housekeeping & Laundry Supervisor, Tammy Long. This innovative spray system uses electrostatic technology to deliver Clorox® disinfectants and sanitizers onto hard-to-reach surfaces.
Superior coverage is delivered to hard-to-reach places, including the side, underside, and backside of surfaces. Up to 18,000 square feet of space can be treated per hour with 99%+ of bacteria being killed in five seconds. Although sprayed spaces have to be vacated for only 15 minutes, the work is usually performed early in the morning before residents are active for the day.
The system manufacturer reports, under EPA regulation #1839-220-67619, that its use kills 20 different organisms, including cold and flu viruses, MRSA and Norovirus. Working on hard, nonporous, or soft surfaces, the system eliminates odors while inhibiting the grown of mold and mildew for up to seven days.
In addition to this work to sanitize campus spaces, Mayflower has located hygiene stations around campus to supply hand-sanitizer, facial masks, and tissues.
None of these measures preclude normal precautions—frequent hand-washing, regular cleaning of personal surfaces, sneezing or coughing into the elbow or a tissue, and staying home when not feeling well.
The battle has just begun!
