Get Into “Matter of Balance” at Mayflower

Do you have concerns about falling? Many older adults experience falls and other restrictions of their activities. “A Matter of Balance” is an award-winning program designed to manage falls and increase activity levels.

Enjoy learning practical fall prevention techniques and simple exercises to increase flexibility, strength, and balance. During the eight-week structured group intervention course, participants learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable, set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and practice exercise to increase strength and balance.

Anne Sunday and Kaylee Thompson will be offering this course on Fridays June 7th through August 2nd (no class on July 5th), from 8:45-10:45 am, in Mayflower’s Montgomery Lounge (southeast corner of 2nd and Broad). This course has been successfully delivered on eight different occasions to average class sizes of 12 participants.

Designed by Boston University, the material is evidence-based and used throughout the country. The leaders have been trained by the Area Agency on Aging. Because every lesson builds on the prior one, it is important to be able to attend at least five of the eight sessions.

The course is open to the wider Grinnell community. Feel free to invite friends and neighbors who are not Mayflower residents. The cost is $20 for the workbook. Coffee and refreshments are provided. Class size is limited to 12-14. Registration deadline is Friday, May 24
