On November 20, 1950, the Board of Directors of the Iowa Conference of the Congregational Church (now United Church of Christ) approved sponsorship of a senior living community in Grinnell, Iowa. 68 years ago! On the corner of 2nd Avenue and Broad Street, the first building was the home donated by Ferdinand Kiesel, which was remodeled into four apartments. The campus has grown to include a modern 60-bed health center, a 23-apartment assisted living facility, six independent living buildings with 107 apartments, 48 patio homes, beautiful gardens, and support buildings on parts of nine city blocks. There are indoor breezeways, tunnels, and a skywalk (longest in Poweshiek County!) to walk up to three City blocks without backtracking. 285 residents call Mayflower home as they plan to live an active life. 68 years! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
