For most of the months of November and December 2018, Mayflower’s Facilities staff has been working on the Buckley/Pearson tunnel and the Pearson building lower-level to upgrade the entire area. New drywall and ceilings, paint, lighting, flooring, handrails, and artwork have combined to create a warm and safe place to navigate the Mayflower campus from east to west, from the Buckley building on Park Street to all four Mayflower buildings on Broad Street.
Complementing the “Caulkins Crossing” at the intersection of the Pearson/Edwards/Montgomery/Watertower Square tunnels, the work has created waterproofing for the tunnel, warm colors for the walls, brighter lighting, and moisture-proof luxury vinyl wood floor plank and new carpet. The construction crew of Joe Derby, electrician and Zach Gersdorf, Wyatt Crawford, and Matt Spencer, finish carpenters, accomplished the work. It was designed by Jack Morrison, Director of Physical Facilities, and overseen by Erin Gersdorf, Facilities Supervisor. They were assisted at times by other members of Mayflower’s 15-member Facilities staff—Les Hall, Rita McVey, Nick Mommer, Jeff Oliver, Ben Pearce, Justin Routier, Tracy Sadler, Ken Steffen, and Curt Vos.
The work was made possible by a gift from Mayflower residents, Doug and Lorna Caulkins. A celebration and ribbon cutting was held on Friday, December 7th.
