On Tuesday, December 6th, residents and staff in The Mayflower Community Health Center staged a surprise baby shower for Jessica Hasenyager, Administrative Assistant. Facilitated by the Community Life staff, the party included giving Jessica a special gift that was eight months in the making. Started shortly after Jessica learned she was pregnant, a sewing project has been under the direction of Mayflower Health Center staff member, Susie Ford
Susie provided direction to residents in making the pictured quilt. Many volunteers helped with the design, making the pattern, and doing the sewing. Residents who participated include Joan Brand-Landkamer, Nadine Brouwer, Jean Carpenter, Katie Hoisington, Wilma Graden, Kathy Locey, Karen Stevenson, Judy Thompson, and the late Netia Worley. In addition, the following Mayflower Community Life staff members, Tracy Woolfolk and Cecelia Bagnoli, also volunteered their time in sewing, along with Susie’s daughter Mikela.
When Jessica walked into the activity room to shouts of, “Surprise!” she WAS surprised and then moved to happy tears. Sugar cookies with blue frosting (it’s a boy!) and sparkling grape juice and cider were served. The blanket was presented along with a card signed by the residents. Jessica is going on parental leave soon, and we’re all wishing Jessica, her husband, and the baby the best Christmas delivery ever!
After the party, Mayflower resident and volunteer, Dorothy Noer, helped lead a Christmas craft activity followed by a St. Nick sing-along.
