The Mayflower Community (Grinnell IA) residents and their guests celebrated Oktoberfest, Amana-style on October 24th. The white-tablecloth dinner was served family style in the Buckley Dining Room after a short social time that featured wines and German beer.
The dinner menu included appetizers (serving bowls on the tables!) of homemade applesauce, coleslaw, and rye bread. The main course was bratwurst, pork schnitzel, spätzle, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans. A luscious apple strudel topped off the meal for desert. To a person, the assessment was “outstanding!”
To finish the evening, a German musical performance was presented for the Lyceum program in the Carman Center. Featured instrumentalists were residents, John and Pasha Buck; Jerry Beauchamp; and former Mayflower employee, Myrt Evans. They even included a polka with accordion!
Mayflower and Food…synonymous!
