Located on the sidewalk in front of the wild grass garden of Mayflower Community residents Lois and Gayle Strickler, Jr. is a park bench made out of “milk jugs.” After Gayle and Lois moved to Grinnell from Marshalltown, they groomed the garden and then added the unique bench that is pictured.
Manufactured by Plastic Recycling of Iowa Falls (PRIF), the bench is sturdy, durable, and environmentally-friendly. PRIF has been building outdoor recreational equipment since the 1980’s using post-consumer and post-industrial plastic.
Because the location of this bench is shaded, Gayle’s and Lois’ intention was to provide a place for pedestrians to stop and rest. The quote on the bench reinforces this causal approach as one sits next to Mayflower Lane on 1st Avenue.
