Springtime in Iowa is green and beautiful. But, at the same time, crazy, wild weather can invade our pastoral way of life. The Mayflower Community (Grinnell IA) is ready for it. Fortunately, we are built on a series of tunnels and underground spaces that provide protection during severe storms. Those spaces include the J&B Bistro, the Kiesel Theatre, and Health Center and apartment building lower levels. Soft drinks, TV weather news viewing, camaraderie, and even some dining all contribute to relaxed passing of time, if necessary.
In addition, our staff gets regular training to respond to weather emergencies, including evacuation procedures and back-up power and lighting. We are ready for it…but please don’t bring it on!
Pictured above is the 148-member Mayflower staff getting annual renewal training in severe weather procedures. Tracy Sadler, Facilities Supervisor, leads the presentation in our Carman Center.
