On Wednesday, August 18th, a large crowd of Mayflower Community residents enjoyed lawn games, conversation, and special foods in the Watertower Square Jewel Garden and open space. The Mayflower Residents Association-sponsored event was organized by task force members Shelia Gause and Iann Veldhuizen.
Residents tested their skills at horseshoes, corn hole, ladder toss, bocce ball, and croquet. In addition, they were treated to Mayflower-prepared snacks and drinks, including popcorn, peanuts in the shell, seedless watermelon, pretzel sticks coated with bacon-bits-covered chocolate, funnel cake, and Italian ice.
In case you are curious, water ice, better known as Italian ice, is an iconic summer treat first served in the Philadelphia area. It’s a frozen treat made from water, sugar, and some sort of flavoring, usually fruit. It is firmer than a slushy, softer than sorbet, and smoother than granita.

Talk about fun in the sun!
