Training to use the new Fun 2 Go bike was held on Friday, September 13th at The Mayflower Community (Grinnell IA). John Brunow, owner of All Ability Cycles of Jefferson, Iowa led selected residents and staff through the mechanics of preparing and riding Mayflower’s new side-by-side cycle.
The side-by-side tandem tricycle allows for two passengers seated next to one another to ride and converse. One is the “driver” who controls the cycle. The “passenger” can be as engaged as is appropriate from full tandem peddling to stationary use.
Brunow says, “These trikes give families and communities choices. Everyone can ride with these quality cycling products available.” After almost thirty years of being away, John and his wife Ces returned to Iowa. Ces had retired from the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center in Washington, DC. John had sold his bike store, bikes@vienna in Vienna, Virginia. They returned to Ces’ hometown of Jefferson with a plan to open a new cycling business called All Ability Cycles near the Raccoon River Valley Trail.
“When we wanted to come back to Iowa, we looked at what other bike stores in the state were doing and no one was targeting the adaptive market,” John explained.
Now, Mayflower residents and selected staff can do the “driving” while talking with their passengers.
