As one of the volunteer roles played by Grinnell College students in The Mayflower Community, SLWS students take on various activities with Health Center and Beebe Assisted Living residents. The Student Leadership Work Study (SLWS) program requires prospective volunteers to apply, be interviewed, and be selected to be accepted into the program.
Organized by Mayflower’s Director of Community Life and Wellness, Leslie Jaworski, one of the roles offered as part of the SLWS, is “Wellness Warrior,” wherein the student volunteer enhances residents’ understanding of and involvement in opportunities to improve their mental and physical health.
On Friday, December 17th, two Wellness Warriors presented a program on “How to Create and Keep a New Year’s Resolution.” Student volunteer, Margaret Morey ’25, presented to Health Center and Beebe residents in Mayflower’s Carman Center information about habit formation based on a course Margaret took this semester at the College. Her slide show, handout, and group discussion were assisted by another SLWS student, Jun (“June”) Seok Choi ’22.
Both Wellness Warriors will return to Mayflower during the second semester to continue to bring wellness opportunities to Mayflower residents.
