On Thursday, December 8th, The Mayflower Community celebrated re-establishment of a pre-pandemic tradition: A special dinner followed by entertainment in the Carman Center.
The meal event was the Prelude to Christmas Dinner. Served in the warm atmosphere of the holiday-arrayed Buckley Dining Room, the dinner featured beef bourguignon, roasted vegetables, and Brussel sprouts and pomegranate. A roasted beetroot and goat cheese crostini appetizer followed the social hour. Then, a spiced pear and bacon salad was served. The meal was topped off with a Yule Log (chocolate sponge cake roll with creamy filling and a chocolate frosting) dessert.
Food, fun, and conviviality at Mayflower…just like the “ol’ days!”
Then, the Grinnell College student ensemble, Fancy Flutes, under the direction of Professor Claudia Anderson, provided entertainment in the Carman Center. They were the kick-off to a season of music as part of Lyceum programs. From the Greek, Lyceum is the term that denotes education and entertainment.
Planned future Thursday evening programs include Shults & Company, Too Many String Band (featuring four Mayflower residents), Christmas carol sing-along, and other local musical groups.
