Residents of The Mayflower Community, Grinnell, Iowa are staying fit and flexible by participating in a twice-weekly exercise class called “Senior Strength.” The class is led by certified Wellness Specialist, Kayley Thompson. Kayley, an employee of UPH-Grinnell Regional Medical Center, spends time each week at Mayflower conducting wellness classes.
The Senior Strength class starts with a walking warm-up in the spacious Mayflower Sports Room, followed by Theraband stretching. The photo below shows the group getting ready to do their Theraband work. Then, they do various stretches and movements with walking poles and chairs. The class has grown from a few participants to now over 20.
Kayley is an upbeat leader with a sensitivity for seniors’ movement needs. With her leadership, the group has developed camaraderie that extends past class time. Reason #336 for living at Mayflower!
