On Wednesday, June 19th, hundreds and hundreds of residents were treated to ice cream and strawberries in The Mayflower Community (Grinnell IA) Buckley Dining Room. Well, maybe it wasn’t “hundreds,” but it was pushing a hundred!
Ironically, the event only had 48-hours’ notice, due to scheduling issues. This must be the start of the “pop-up party” season at Mayflower. As you can see from the photo above, residents and guests enjoyed the treat, along with the conversation at the inviting round tables in the beautiful cherry-wood dining room.
The event was organized by Mayflower resident, Dottie Blazek, with the able assistance of Mayflower Residents Association members. The “de-stemming” crew who worked earlier in the afternoon to prep the strawberries included Dottie, Bob and Dot Anderson, Jim and Marvel LaCasse, Jeananne Schild, Dick and Sis Vogel, Deena Wellborn, and Arlo Yungclas.
Mayflower’s Director of Food Services, Scott Gruhn, usually supplies this event with strawberries hand-picked from his home gardens. They were “bad” this year, so Scott procured strawberries from a supplier. Still, they were sumptuous.
