On Friday, August 20th, six members of the Farnum Family, an instrumental and vocal group from Galena, Missouri, played for two gatherings in The Mayflower Community. The first performance was in the Beebe Circle for Beebe Assisted Living and independent living residents. Then, they moved to the Health Center Courtyard to play for residents there.
Having “graduated” two older sons from the band, the Farnum Family, is composed of father Norm (banjo), mother Tricia (pennywhistle and keyboards), Benjamin (guitar), Hannah (fiddle), Maggie (upright bass) and Mathew (mandolin). All sing.
The family band from the heart of the Ozarks, has been playing a mix of bluegrass, country, folk, gospel, Irish, and Western music since the kids were little. Three of the current members began their instrumental training when they were just six years old. The family plays many venues in the Midwest. They are completing a tour of Iowa stops after a performance trip to Colorado.
This was the Farnum Family’s fourth performance at Mayflower, the first since the pandemic. They were enthusiastically welcomed back. Included in the crowd was six-week old James Schubert, grandson of Beebe resident, Kay Roberts. Ironically, Kay had just welcomed to town her oldest granddaughter from Colorado who is starting her first year at Grinnell College.
