How did we celebrate Christmas Day in Grinnell’s The Mayflower Community? We had the “good” and the “bad.” (There were some ugly sweaters!)
The “bad?” Our community of residents, who have been taking extreme precautions against the coronavirus for the past 10 months, continued their work on Christmas day. They wore face masks. They practiced social distancing. They dined in very small groups. They missed the company of family members. This is getting old, but the commitment has likely saved lives in this senior living community. It is still a “bad” deal.
The “good?” Well, we ARE Mayflower! The “good” is the food! There was no sit-down dining service available, but fantastic food was delivered to residents’ homes by Mayflower staff. The menu included Roast Beef Tenderloin, Baked Ham, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Green Bean Casserole & Scalloped Corn, Cranberry/Pear Salad & Fruit Compote, Dinner Roll, and Cheesecake.

Certainly, the “good” overcame some of the “bad” on Christmas day in The Mayflower Community.
